When a ship runs aground in places with difficult weather or ground conditions, salvage of the ship could be arduous. Sometimes the salvagers come to a point where they have to give up.

That’s when we are called in.

How we do wreck-salvage

When the insurance companies consider that regular salvage is not feasible, we have a way of sorting it.

Together with our partners we can remove the entire wreck in pieces. As we carry out the salvage, barriers and continuous monitoring is established to avoid any spills from the wreck. This ensures that the environment is handled with care.

The method of work consisted of three steps. The first step is to cut the wreck in to sections. We use our own method, cutting with a thin diamond-imbedded wire. Our self-designed guillotine cuts the wreck from the bottom up, with an absolute minimum of debris. This way we can remove the wreck section by section, without harming the marine environment. We customize our equipment to specifically meet the parameters of each individual assignment.

Thereafter each section is lifted onboard a transporter ship to be carried away, using a mobile crane. Then the sections are transported to a scrap yard to be fully dismantled.

Our experience

Kristiansand Bygg is a company specialized in wire cutting and core drilling. As we have divers certified for underwater work, we can deliver all our services both bellow and above the water surface.

It’s important to us that we don’t use divers who can practice crafts, but rather employ craftsmen who are certified to dive. This way we can deliver high quality work even under demanding underwater conditions.

In addition to salvaging larger ships, we also provide salvage of construction machinery and other vehicles that for some reason has ended up under water.
