Investing in underwater inspections is a low-risk option. Investing wisely can result in substantial financial savings for the owner. The early detection of problems can be achieved through regular inspections carried out by professional divers and followed by complete and accurate reports. As a result, it avoids the more costly repair that would have been required if the problem hadn't been addressed earlier.

Types of underwater inspection

Our teams conduct the following types of inspections:

• In-water surveys (UWILD) can be carried out in lieu of drydocking, where accepted by the classification society.

• Wear on the pintle and tail shafts

• Inspections performed prior to docking or before a sale

• Inspections of a certain region

• Inquiry on the extent of the damage

• NDT testing includes MPI, Eddy current, and thickness measurements.

We've been providing repair and maintenance services for years. As a result, we are able to complete any necessary follow-up repairs quickly and without wasting any time. There is no need to set a new date for the repair because all of our diver/technicians are capable of doing it.

Equipment can be mobilized ahead of time if damage can be foreseen during an examination. There is no delay in getting it to your ship's position. This is done at one of our rapid response facilities, where a significant supply is always available for our personnel.

DNV-approved in-water survey (UWILD / IWS)

Kristiansand Bygg AS holds DNV Approval of Service Suppliers under DNV-CP-0628 (certificate AOSS0000S13, valid until 2029). We carry out Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Drydocking (UWILD), also known as In-Water Survey (IWS), with our own divers and our own PIVOT ROV, and we agree the exact inspection scope directly with your vessel's class surveyor. We can provide a live two-way video feed so the class surveyor can follow the inspection remotely in real time.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kristiansand Bygg a DNV-approved inspection contractor?

Yes. We hold DNV Approval of Service Suppliers under DNV-CP-0628, certificate AOSS0000S13, valid until 2029.

Can an in-water survey replace a drydocking?

An Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Drydocking (UWILD), also known as In-Water Survey (IWS), can replace a scheduled drydocking for periodic hull surveys when the classification society accepts it. We agree the exact scope directly with your vessel's class surveyor.

Do you inspect with divers or an ROV?

Both. Our divers inspect to 50 m and can carry out follow-up repairs in the same visit. Where a diver is not needed or access is difficult, we use our own PIVOT ROV with a manipulator arm, a 300 m tether and surface-supplied power from our own generator.

Can the class surveyor follow the inspection remotely?

Yes. We can provide a live two-way video feed so your class surveyor can follow the inspection remotely in real time.
